New Year’s resolutions run the gamut from the popular (weight loss and fitness) to the silly (learn how to clone Nutella) to the rather absurd (teach owls to shout “crime” at anyone breaking the law). From financial goals to living a less wasteful life and everything imaginable in between, the list of resolutions is long and growing. One resolution that nearly everyone can agree on is placing a bigger emphasis on health and what that means to you. Here, we will take a look at how you can make 2018 your healthiest year yet!
Although New Year’s resolutions can be fun to make, they are often difficult to keep. In fact, less than half of those who set some resolutions are sticking to them six months later. Since it can be hard to keep up enthusiasm for months at a time, it is important to choose things that are challenging but doable. If your resolution is to lose weight, and let’s be honest, whose isn’t, start by setting small manageable goals and remember that weight loss takes time. You didn’t gain 20 pounds overnight and you won’t lose it that fast other. A buddy or some time of support system is a good idea as well. Having someone to lean on and share with when you have an off day can help you get right back on track.
Nearly as popular as the weight loss resolution, financial goals also rank high on the resolution scale. From saving money to paying off bills, nearly everyone could use some tweaking when it comes to their finances. Not sure where to start? Try walking or biking instead of driving when possible. You will save money, it’s good for the environment and it will help with the weight loss resolution if that is on your list. Make lists when shopping to avoid spontaneous and unnecessary purchases. Find simple ways to cut back… pack your lunch rather than eating out or exercise at home rather than pay for a gym membership.
Stress… We all have it and a very good resolution is to have less of it. While small bouts of stress can even boost energy, prolonged stress can increase your risk of all kinds of things including insomnia, obesity, heart disease and more. Find ways to destress whenever you can. Yoga, reading, time outdoors… whatever makes you feel calm and peaceful makes a great way to destress. And don’t forget to take your vacation days at work!
As we get ready to start another new year, we wish all of our patients, colleagues, friends, family and followers an amazing 2018!

I’m glad you focused on making sure that you are patient with your health. I think a lot of people get really frustrated when their health isn’t perfect after eating one healthy meal. Like you said, it takes a lot of times eating and acting healthy.
